Welcome to the new Great Plains Chapter website!
The Great Plains Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers was chartered in 1958. Our purpose is to promote the advancement of the safety profession and safety professionals throughout our geographical area: the State of Nebraska; these counties in Iowa: Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida, Monona, Crawford, Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Cass, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page; these counties in Minnesota: Rock, Nobles, Pipestone, and Jackson; and these counties in South Dakota: Lincoln, Minnehaha, Hanson, Hutchinson, Bon Homme, and Yankton.
In fulflling its purpose, the Chapter sponsors educational programs and forums for the interchange of ideas and knowledge.
October 26-28, 2010 - NSC Greater Omaha Chapter Office
This is a three day review course for those preparing for the Safety Fundamental Examination, leading to the designation of Associate Safety Professional (ASP). This course is an excellent review for those desiring to:
Classes will be conducted from 8 am to 5 pm each day at the NSC-Greater Omaha Chapter, 11620 M Circle, Omaha, NE. Registration is limited to the first 40 participants for the Workshop. There are only 10 seats reserved for the Student Rate. The Workshop will be cancelled if there are less than 15 participants. Early Registration ends on September 15, 2010. A TI-30XIIS scientific calculator is included in the cost of the course. Lunch will be provided all three days.

For the 100th commemoration of the March 25, 1911, Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire to be held in NY City, ASSE is working with the local ASSE chapter and the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition to participate – also, some ASSE chapters may be joining with fire departments to commemorate this tragedy that resulted in the development and implementation of workplace safety rules and regulations and the founding of ASSE in NY City just months later in 1911.
We’re also looking forward to the Safety 2011 to be held June 12-15, 2011, in Chicago, and hope you can join us.

The ASSE kids’ ‘Safety-on-the-Job’ poster contest for kids aged 5-14 begins this September 19, 2010, and ends February 14, 2011 – Valentine’s Day! Rules and the entry form can be found at www.asse.org/newsroom. To view past entries go to www.asse.org/naosh10. Members can sponsor schools, other children, co-workers’ kids, etc.
To assist you in your safety efforts, ASSE will be rolling out free information and tools you can use soon on: Farm Safety; Teen Workplace Safety; and, On/Off Campus Fire Safety – to be found late this summer at www.asse.org/newsroom.
